Critical Minerals Policy Tracker

The IEA’s new Critical Minerals Policy Tracker presents nearly 200 policies and regulations from 25 countries and regions worldwide. These policies address many different goals, including ensuring supply reliability and resilience, promoting exploration, production and innovation and encouraging sustainable and responsible practices.

United Nations Secretary General's Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals

To build trust between governments, local communities and industry and address issues relating to equity, transparency, investment, sustainability and human rights, the Secretary General launched the Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals. The panel brought together governments, intergovernmental and international organisations, industry and civil society, to develop a set of common and voluntary principles to build trust, guide the transition and accelerate the race to renewables.

Critical Minerals Atlas

The interactive Atlas of Critical Minerals, developed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), shows you where critical minerals are produced. Click on a country to discover which countries produce critical minerals, what percent of the world production they are responsible for, and details on what each mineral is used for. USGS tracks over 90 minerals in 180 countries, and develops the whole of government List of Critical Minerals. This visualisation represents 2023 data from the 2025 Mineral Commodity Summaries and the 2023 Minerals Yearbook.

Pamoja Critical Minerals Alliance

The Pamoja Critical Minerals Alliance (PCMA) is a membership-driven initiative led by the Southern Africa Resource Watch (SARW) for various organisations and communities that are interested in tracking the implications of increased extraction of critical minerals and other value-addition activities impacting communities and nature. Through mobilisation and the promotion of African communities and organisations, the PMCA aims to prevent a Green Curse from materialising across the continent.

Transition Minerals Tracker

Designed by the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre, this tracker seeks to improve the human rights practices of companies and their mining operations producing the minerals vital to the renewable energy and electric vehicle sectors. It does this by shedding light on the key human rights risks in the geographies where they operate, and the human rights policies and practices of the most important companies in this sub-sector.

Mapping Africa's Green Mineral Partnerships

This interactive map and its accompanying report illustrate bilateral and multilateral agreements made with African countries regarding access to their green or critical minerals. These minerals, essential for the energy transition, have become a key focus of geopolitical strategies worldwide in recent years. APRI conducted an extensive online search using multiple search engines and databases. The search encompassed G20 and BRICS+ member states, as well as states with significant mining sectors, such as Chile, Cuba and Venezuela.

Production, Ownership, and Social Unrest Mapping Tool

Global Witness has produced an interactive tool on production, ownership and social unrest in the critical minerals sector. The tool shows how much production is set to increase, the nationalities of mining companies, the locations of active mines, and events of political violence or protest taking place in the major mining jurisdictions across four key critical minerals.

Trade in Critical Minerals Database

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the WTO Secretariat have jointly launched a database on trade in critical minerals to enhance transparency regarding these minerals and to support the clean energy transition. The database provides information on trade flows, allows visualisations of trade networks and specialisation patterns and compiles data on tariffs and other trade policies for 250 critical minerals and related products across value chains.

ResourceTrade.Earth

ResourceTrade.Earth has been developed by Chatham House to enable users to explore the fast-evolving dynamics of international trade in natural resources, the sustainability implications of such trade, and the related interdependencies that emerge between importing and exporting countries and regions. The trade data on this site are from the Chatham House Resource Trade Database (CHRTD). The CHRTD is a repository of bilateral trade in natural resources between more than 200 countries and territories.

Resilient Inclusive Supply Chain Enhancement Partnership (RISE)

The RISE Partnership is a global initiative that provides knowledge, technical assistance, and finance facilitation to (i) create an enabling business climate generating new opportunities for developing inclusive supply chains of clean energy products in targeted low- and middle-income countries, bringing value addition and benefits of diversified economies; and (ii) support global decarbonization efforts through more diversified and inclusive supply chains of clean energy products for the global economy.

Critical Minerals Map: Global Distribution and Reserves

This map presents the global distribution, production, and reserves of 21 critical minerals vital for the energy transition, new technologies, and other national priorities. It integrates geological, environmental, infrastructure, and socio-political data to support sustainable mining, investment and policy decisions. The map is developed by the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development - an initiative of the International Institute for Sustainable Development.

Resource Contracts

Resource Contracts is a repository of publicly available oil, gas, and mining contracts in machine-readable, searchable, open-data format. Contracts are tagged to highlight each contract's key financial, social, environmental, operational and legal terms. Some contracts include plain language summaries of these key clauses to facilitate understanding of the terms. Resource Contracts promotes greater of investments in the extractive industries, and facilitates a better understanding of the contracts that govern them. The repository is managed by the Natural Resource Governance Institute.

Mineral Security Partnership

The MSP is a collaboration of 13 countries and the EU to catalyze public and private investment in responsible critical minerals supply chains globally. MSP partners include Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union (represented by the European Commission).

The Critical Materials Monitor aims to improve understanding of supply chains essential for the energy transition, the transition to more sustainable energy. It offers insights into the critical minerals required, outlines the components of key technologies, and provides in-depth reserve, production, and trade analysis.

OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas

The OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas provides step-by-step management recommendations endorsed by governments for global responsible supply chains of all minerals, in order for companies to respect human rights and avoid contributing to conflict through their mineral or metal purchasing decisions and practices. The Due Diligence Guidance for minerals may be used by any company potentially sourcing any minerals or metals from conflict-affected and high-risk areas, and is intended to cultivate transparent, conflict-free supply chains and sustainable corporate engagement in the minerals sector.

AfricaMaVal

AfricaMaVal is a 42-month project gathering 18 partners from 11 countries. It is coordinated by BRGM, the French Geological Survey. The consortium gathers African and European experienced organisations, associations, and networks deeply anchored and involved in the raw material domain with specific expertise, and knowledge.
